A spin-off series, entitled The Honor at Magic High School, aired its 13-episode first season last summer. Eight-Bit also produced the first movie in the franchise, The Irregular at Magic High School The Movie: The Girl Who Calls the Stars, which was released in 2017. An anime adaptation, produced by Death Note studio Madhouse, premiered in 2014. A second season was produced by Studio Eight-Bit, which is best known for its anime adaptation of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. Sato's story was also adapted into a manga series, which features a rotating staff of artists that changes with each story arc. Publisher Dengeki Bunko began releasing these stories in a light novel format in 2011. The franchise began with a series of stories published online by creator Tsutomu Sato. The series stars Yuichiro Nakamura, who is also known for voicing the sorcerer Satoru Gojo in Jujutsu Kaisen, as Tatsuya and Saori Hayami as Miyuki. The Reminiscence Arc animated special featured the return of many of the second season's cast and crew, who are also expected to reprise their roles for the new season. While Tatsuya is initially believed to have a rather poor grasp of magic, his gains notoriety for his excellent combat abilities and intelligence, causing him to become an "irregular" stand-out pupil at the magic academy. The series takes place in the high school specifically designed to help potential magicians achieve their full potential, and focuses on a pair of siblings: the magically inclined Miyuki, and her brother and body guard, Tatsuya. The Irregular at Magic High School takes place in an alternate history where certain humans are capable of wielding magic, and consequently the growth of technology has been focused on helping magicians to hone their skills.
